Grows wild in the south of the European part of Russia, in Crimea, the Caucasus, western and southwestern Siberia, the Far East, Central Asia, the Mediterranean, Central Europe, China, India.
A spectacular annual ornamental foliage plant. The bushes are regular, elongated-oval in shape, 75-100 cm high. The stems are erect, densely branched. The leaves are small, linear-lanceolate, tapering at the base into a petiole, emerald green, turning red with the onset of autumn frosts. The whole plant is pubescent. Tolerates pruning well. The flowers are inconspicuous. The fruit is a nut, the seeds retain their germination for 1-2 years. In cultivation since 1629.
Location: prefers a sunny location, although it can withstand light shading.
Soil: requires loose, nutritious soil, relatively drought-resistant.
Reproduction: by sowing seeds in open ground or bowls, seedlings are grown in greenhouses. Pick 1 piece into 7 cm pots with subsequent transfer to 9-11 cm pots. Planting in the ground is carried out, maintaining a distance of 20-30 cm.
